Boyle Fredrickson Rings in 2020 with New Board Officers, Shareholders

MILWAUKEE – Boyle Fredrickson, Wisconsin’s largest full-service intellectual property law firm, held its annual shareholders’ meeting on December 12, 2019. The shareholders voted to add new members to the Board of Directors for 2020.

The Board added Tim Newholm and voted in the firm’s officers for 2020. Newholm will take on the role of treasurer, Jim Boyle, a founding member of the firm, remains as secretary, and Mike Griggs moves to vice president. The board also elected Keith Baxter as president. Newholm, Boyle, Griggs, and Baxter are all firm shareholders with experience in all facets of intellectual property law, including litigation and the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications both domestically and abroad.

Each year, the firm’s President and Board of Directors set the overall direction and path towards continued growth from 2019 into 2020.

In addition to determining the firm’s leadership, 3 attorneys were promoted within the firm. Sarah Wong and Billie Jean Smith were made voting shareholders of Boyle Fredrickson, while Brad Meyer was promoted to non-voting shareholder.

Sarah Wong started with the firm as a law clerk while attending the Marquette University Law School. She joined the firm as a lawyer after graduating from law school in 2012. Sarah has an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering with a minor in economics from Washington University in St. Louis. Sarah’s diverse legal practice includes patent, trademark and copyright acquisition, litigation, transactions and licensing.

Billie Jean Smith, one of the first female intellectual property attorneys in Milwaukee, joined Boyle Fredrickson in 2018 after more than 25 years at another top law firm in Wisconsin. She is well-known in the Milwaukee community for her involvement with local organizations and charitable causes and is a member of numerous professional organizations, serving on several community boards.

After earning his BS degree in Construction Engineering from Iowa State, Brad Meyer graduated cum laude from Marquette University Law School in 2013, joining the firm as a lawyer thereafter. Brad focuses his practice on a wide variety of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, trademark acquisition, and litigation. Brad is currently a member of the Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association.
