Adam L. Brookman

Adam practices in the intellectual property areas of technology and
e-commerce, patent, trademark, and copyright law, as well as trade secrets and unfair trade. In addition to counseling clients on technology and intellectual property issues, he negotiates and drafts license and technology transfer agreements and prepares and prosecutes patent, copyright, and trademark applications. He also litigates all phases of trademark, unfair competition, patent, and copyright actions in federal court.

As lead counsel for Edison Parking in Pavia v. Edison Parking, Adam played a key role in the landmark decision on the Federal Copyright Visual Artists Rights Act handed down by the United States Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York. He was also instrumental in obtaining the first liability finding under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act for the use of false names in the sending of unsolicited bulk e-mail (“spam”).

A noted speaker and author, Adam’s publications include a major treatise titled Trademark Law: Protection, Enforcement and Licensing. He is a former Marquette University adjunct professor of law, has served as an expert witness, and is a frequent speaker on technology, e-commerce, and intellectual property issues. He has an industrial engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a law degree from the George Washington University National Law Center.

Adam is admitted to practice in New York and Wisconsin, as well as the United States Patent and Trademark Office and various federal trial courts throughout the country. A Boyle Fredrickson shareholder, he is also listed in Who’s Who in America.
